Naira Redesign: Allow Nigerians to Deposit N500 and N1000 Banknotes – CPPE Tells CBN, Buhari
The Center for the Promotion of Special Enterprises (CPPE) has asked the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN and President Muhammadu Buhari to allow old naira notes, N500 and N1000 to be deposited in commercial banks.
He added that the Central Bank of Nigeria should be wary of its conflicting directives to commercial banks as it causes more pain to millions of innocent Nigerians who are seeking to return the old coins.
We appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Central Bank of Nigeria to give this process a humane face. The suffering and trauma caused by the complete administration of politics is indescribable. Accordingly, we appeal to the Central Bank of Nigeria to allow old banknotes to be deposited in commercial banks to alleviate the present pain and distress of returning old banknotes.”
On Friday, the Central Bank of Nigeria denied directing commercial banks to start collecting old naira notes.
Nigerians continue to lament the hardships brought about by implementing the Naira Redesign Policy.
