NDC: Ex-militants in the Niger Delta rebuke Ondo senators for opposing Buhari’s candidate

The Niger Delta Development Front (NDDF) has condemned the opposition of President Muhammadu Buhari’s nomination of Charles Ogunmola to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The president wants Ogunmola, from Owo Local Government in Ondo State, to be confirmed as Executive Director for Projects.

On Monday, some former militants warned of unrest if the candidate was allowed to take office. They argue that it is from Ooo, which does not produce oil.

In response, the NDDF criticized the Ondo senators for refusing Ogunmola during the examination. Governor Rotimi Akredulu was also reported to be against the nomination.

The statement was signed by the Coordinator, Secretary and Publicity Secretary, Ovi Boubarakwe, Kingsley Ibiwo and Solomon Origumisan, respectively.

The NDF said that “faceless and greedy politicians” were hiding under the guise of former fighters to further their agenda, which denied the region development.

State lawmakers were angry at their “disapproval from their constituents,” the panel of former agitators said, noting that Rotimi Amaichi was appointed as minister in 2015 despite disapproval from Rivers senators.

The National Front for the Defense of Democracy opposed Ondo’s legislators’ position that it was supposed to be occupied only by indigenous people in oil-producing regions, stressing that anyone from a member state could be appointed.

“We sympathize with the senators because their refusal is a pointless exercise because the Senate, in its wisdom, will not disgrace a president who has legitimately exercised the rights afforded him by the Democratic National Dialogue Act.

“If nominations are made in terms of oil exploration, Mr. Gbenga Edema of Ilaje LGA, who has been nominated by President Buhari as NDDC Commissioner, should be dropped because there is no oil in his village of Ilaje.”

The statement urged the security services to arrest those who issue threats in the event of a breakdown of law and order in Elaje/Isi-Odo and other areas.

However, the group lamented the ocean’s incursion into the Ayetoro community of Ilaje despite reports that the reclamation contract had been awarded.
