Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has warned that football in Nigeria will die if they fail to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The three-time African champion failed to reach the 2022 edition in Qatar.
They lost the card to their West African rivals, Ghana, during the qualifiers.
The Eagles played in the previous three World Cups before failing to secure a place in Qatar 2022.
“Nigerian football will die if we fail to qualify for the next World Cup,” Oliseh said in an interview on ARISE TV on Monday.
We are already behind many countries because we did not qualify (for Qatar 2022) and we are behind because we did not participate in this World Cup.
“Football is a religion in this country, but when you don’t have a strong league, you can’t have a good national team.”
The USA, Mexico and Canada will host the 2026 World Cup.
