The National Identity Management Committee, NIMC, has asked for the support of traditional leaders to register more people in the country.
The commission’s coordinator for Jigawa State, Alhaji Aminu Jagada, made the call on Tuesday when he visited Emir Dotse Alhaji Nuhu Muhammed Sanusi at his palace.
He said UNHCR had only registered and issued identification numbers to 2.5 million people in the state.
According to him, “the Principality of Kazur recorded 50 percent, Hadia 37 percent, Dotsi 30 percent, Gomel 25 percent, and Ringim 23 percent.”
Jakada said that the committee, in cooperation with some companies, provided 1,500 computers to carry out the registration process successfully.
However, he sought the support of traditional leaders in creating more awareness of the importance of having an identification number.
However, Emir Dotsi Al-Hajj Nuhu Muhammad Al-Senussi pledged to cooperate with the committee to ensure that more people are registered in the emirate.
