Ifene Ejiofor, Principal Adviser to Mazi Nnamdi Kano, the outlawed indigenous leader of Biafra, on Monday visited his client at the headquarters of the Ministry of State Services, DSS, in Abuja.
In a statement he personally signed, Ejiofor indicated that the visit was to provide Kanu with an update on the pending proceedings on the appeal filed by the Federal Government of Nigeria in the Supreme Court against the ruling of the Court of Appeal, which had previously ordered the release of the separatist. .
According to the lawyer, there are indications that FG has not “showed any willingness to prosecute on appeal”.
He alleged that FG intended to take advantage of the stay order, to buy time and further detain Kano in SSI custody, stating that “the evil scheme was dead on arrival”.
“Now, we have filed for a dismissal of the appeal, the federal government will have no other useful strategy to rely on,” the statement read.
Onyendu welcomed the aggressive strategy adopted by our Chief Counsel – President Ozekhome, SAN, to ensure that the law runs its full course. Details of this strategy remain undisclosed.
“Onyendu as usual advised Ezigbo UmuChineke to always stay focused, always keep an eye on the ball. He advised that every distraction should be ignored at this critical time, no matter what quarter it comes from.”
