Ogun 2023: INEC puts PDP back on the ballot as Aderinokun, Amuzu and youth poll voters

In compliance with the Court of Appeal’s decision to disqualify all the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in Ogun State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reinserted the party’s candidates.

In an update on Thursday, Ladi Adebuto appeared on the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) list as the gubernatorial candidate of the Democratic Progressive Party in Ogun State, while Adekunle Akinlade was listed as the deputy gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had earlier removed Adebuto and 39 other PDP candidates from the list of candidates in Ogun State, citing a court order.

The DAILY POST reports that on September 27 the Federal High Court in Abeokuta ordered the electoral ruling to remove all DPP candidates after all its primaries were nullified.

But the Ibadan Court of Appeal overturned the November 28 ruling saying that Segun Seriki, Tayo Olabud, Samson Pamgobuz and others did not have the power to challenge the primary because they were not aspirants.

In a statement entitled ‘Revised List of Final List of Candidates According to Court Orders’, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicated that it had published the final list of Conservative candidates on October 4, 2022, in accordance with the provisions of Section 32 of the 2022 Election Act.

After said publication, the Committee was informed of the Court’s orders regarding the nomination of candidates for Governor, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Representatives.

“Under Section 287 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), the Commission is obliged to implement court orders on the nomination of candidates by political parties in the affected constituencies,” it was said.

Accordingly, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said that the lists of candidates have been amended in accordance with the court orders contained therein as of December 21, 2022, for uploading to its website.

With this, all Ogun PDP candidates, including Olumde Aderinokun from Ogun Central, Toyin Amuzu from Abeokuta South Federal Constituency and others, have been reinstated as contestants in the 2023 elections.

Meanwhile, the Ogun Central Senate candidate, Aderinokun, and the Abeokuta South House candidate, Amuzu, began their campaign in earnest, imploring voters to side with the PDP next year.
