Oil Can’t Feed Nigeria Anymore – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that oil and gas can no longer feed Nigeria, given the country’s growing population.

Obasanjo revealed this over the weekend, when leaders of the Senior Socio-Cultural Group in Tiv Land, Benue State, Mzough U Tiv (MUT) paid him an appreciation visit at the OOPL Penthouse in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

According to a statement made available to the DAILY POST by his special media assistant, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo has tasked Nigerians with seeing the country as being for everyone, to “save it and bring it back to what God created it to be.”

Obasanjo declared that “only agriculture and agribusiness can handle the population growth in the country”.

He reiterated that agriculture and agribusiness would be the only means of feeding the nation, not oil.

The former chief accused the people of Tiv of focusing on agriculture, asserting that he had set behind him a fire on his farm in Benue.

Obasanjo, who has been awarded the title of “Great Warrior” of the land of Tif by the socio-political group, said he will establish an industry in Benue next year.

Earlier in his words, the leader of the group, Iorbee Ihagh, had asked Obasanjo to, among other things, establish a fruit juice industry in Benue.
