Ondo: The police are prosecuting a driver for the alleged kidnapping and murder of a businessman

Ondo State Police Headquarters charged Idwo Adekanye, a middle-aged driver, on Friday with murdering and kidnapping a businessman named Omolo Oluwosoyo in Irile Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to Police Prosecutor Taiwo Onyere, Adekanye committed the crime on January 14, 2023, along the Ore-Irele Road, and was charged with conspiracy, kidnapping and murder on four counts.

Onyer testified in court that the defendant accompanied his boss on a business trip to Osogbo, Osun State, where they kidnapped him and took him to an unknown location.

It was also said that the victim was strangled and killed by the defendant with a stick.

According to the charge, the offense violated Section 316 of the Criminal Code, ch. 37, vol. I, Ondo State Laws, 2006 and Sections 6(b) and 2(a) and (b) of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping Act, 2010.

In light of the charge, Onyere urged the court in an application to detain the defendant in the Olukota Correctional Center until the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) could provide.

Defense counsel DS Akinbo requested that the application be dismissed because his client had already received it on the day he was charged and was therefore not ready to hear it.

With Judge RO Yakubu adjourning the case, the family of the deceased earlier demanded justice and confidential investigation in a petition to AIG, District 17, by the family’s attorney, AK Akinbuluma.
