Osun CP warns of post-election violence

Police Commissioner, Osun State Police Command, Abayomi Oladipo called on political parties and politicians to accept the results of the presidential and National Assembly elections in good faith.

Abayomi also warned that the security services, including the Nigerian army, have the capacity to deal with perpetrators of post-election violence anywhere in the state.

The Osun Police Chief made the announcement on Saturday while speaking with reporters as he led the heads of other security agencies to monitor elections in some local government areas in the state.

He also praised the behavior of the Osun voters for exercising their civic duties without causing grudge in all the local governments visited, adding that with the behavior and attitude shown by the voters, there would likely be no violence after the elections.

According to him, “Contrary to some expectations that Osun might be violent during the elections, the conduct of the elections was very successful, and you will give credit to the police and all other security agencies, including the military, for the wonderful synergy and cooperation that has been shown in the course of preparing for these elections.”

“However, it is not over yet. The job is not completely done because we have post-election violence and we are on the ground to deal with it if it happens in Osun State. But so far, it has been very peaceful.

“You can see the safety screen. We obviously have the hardware to deal with a situation like this. But with the behavior and behavior of voters today, there may not be any of that.”
