Osun: Forget about going back to power – activist Suleiman Oytola tells his supporters

Human rights activist Adenyi Alimi Suleiman, the former governor of Osun State, told Adigboyega Oitola and his supporters to forget about returning as governor of the state.

Recall that the Speaker of the Osun House of Representatives, Timothy Owoye, said on Friday during the inauguration of the Tinubu/Chetema Presidential Campaign Committee in Osogbo, Oitola will return as governor of the state before July 5, 2023.

Oitola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, emerged as the runner-up during the gubernatorial election on 16 July 2022, behind Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

In a personally signed statement Tuesday, the activist told APC to put an end to their dreams of returning to governance in the state.

Suleiman, CEO of the Center for Human Rights and Social Justice, urged them to accept their loss in the gubernatorial elections on July 16, 2022 in good faith with a spirit of sportsmanship and preparation for the 2026 state elections.

“Thinking about manipulating the electoral and judicial process if Paula Ahmed Tinubu wins the presidential elections to return to power through the back door cannot be fruitful for Gboyega Oyetola because the law related to the 2022 electoral law has settled everything and no president can manipulate this electoral process again.

“Nigeria is not a banana republic where the law is enacted to satisfy the whims and whims of Gboyega Oyetola and Bola Tinubu. For example, all the opposition rulers in whose favour the courts ruled that led to the amazing gubernatorial elections in the country today, were during the presidency of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Heaven has not fallen,” he said.

Regarding the ongoing Election Petition Court in Osun, the pro-democracy activist pointed out that the court was not set up for the benefit of any political party but to deal with post-election cases.
