Paying the salary obligation to the workers, not the achievement – is legal to the Kwara government

Alhaji Hakeem Oldemije Lawal, SDP gubernatorial candidate for Kwara State, criticized the state government for celebrating the salary payment as an achievement.

He said paying salaries is an obligation any employer has to its employees, saying it is sad that politicians disrespect voters by celebrating non-essential things like infrastructure and other commitments as major accomplishments.

Lawal said this on Oro-Ilu’s flagship current affairs program SOBI 101.9FM on Wednesday.

He said, “In 2019, we made promises to the Kwarans, particularly on issues of welfare of local government and civil servants. It is only responsible for the leader keeping these promises. Unfortunately, the current administration is not doing so.

“When we have staff appointed to do certain jobs and we still hire consultants to do the same job. That’s a double risk.

“Paying a salary is not an achievement, it is an obligation. These people worked for the state and it is their right to receive their salary and it is the duty of the government to pay their salary.”
