A well-known Nigerian social critic, Aisha Yesofu, has claimed that the Labor Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, can be likened to an independent candidate.
Yessoufou said Obi is running on the Labor platform because the law does not allow an individual to run as an independent candidate.
Her statement was contained in a post on her verified Twitter account on Wednesday.
Yessoufou, a staunch Obi supporter, was responding to a tweet alleging the Workers’ Party structure in Kwara State was being vandalized.
She said what matters is that people are with Obi.
She wrote: “I have told everyone over and over again that Peter Obi is like an independent candidate who runs through a party because the law requires it. The party is not Peter Obi’s strength. The people are his strength!”
“As long as the people are with him, that is all that matters. If you don’t sell and I don’t sell and the other backers don’t sell what does it matter whether some party members are selling? Shall we not make other party members back down in droves?”
