Polls 2023: Security Services Hold Joint Show of Force in Abia
The Abia State Police Command of the Nigeria Police carried out a city-wide patrol in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, in preparation for the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The ‘Operation Show of Force’, which took place on Saturday, were joined by officers and men of the 14th Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia.
Men from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigerian Immigration Service and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) also participated in the patrol.
The patrol raised tension in parts of the capital due to the heavy presence of about 20 police cars loaded with heavily armed policemen.
There were about 10 Nigerian Army vehicles, including a modernized Armored Personnel Carrier (APC).
The patrol coincided with the February edition of Abia state’s monthly clean-up exercise.
Addressing reporters in Umuahia after the joint exercise, Mustafa Bala said the essence of the process is to build synergy and cooperation among security activists for peaceful, free, fair and credible elections in the state.
Bala urged voters to turn out in large numbers to cast their ballots without any intimidation of miscreants during the polling.
CP Bala warned the wicked to desist from actions capable of blocking the peaceful path to the general elections.
On the recent threat by the self-appointed leader of Biafra, Simon Ekpa, to disrupt the elections in the southeast, Bala described the threat as unfounded, warning that the police and other security agencies are ready to deal ruthlessly with any group or people that threaten the conduct of elections and peace. in Abia State.
He confirmed that all tactical units of the Abia State Police Command have been mobilized for the conduct of peaceful elections in Abia, on 25 February 2023.
