Power outages occurred in some parts of Abuja as a truck crashed into the transmission tower of the Transport Corporation of Nigeria, TCN.
DAILY POST has learned that some parts of Abuja such as Dutse, Dawaki and Gwarinpa experienced blackouts for more than 24 hours.
The Daily Mail confirmed the situation in a statement released on Tuesday by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ms. Ndidi Mbah.
Mbah revealed that the accident resulted in power outages in Maitama, Laos, Central District, and some parts of Jarki.
She said, “The Nigerian Transmission Corporation hereby states that it is working diligently to construct a bypass from the Katambe substation to the GIS substation in the central region to restore power supply to the district and surrounding areas.
“The current state of limited outage in parts of Abuja, caused by a gravel truck lost control and crashed into TCN 132 kV Transmission Tower No. 20, supplying bulk electricity to the 100 MVA portion of Katambi Substation and Central District Station. Sub GIS 2x60MVA.
The accident, which occurred at about 2.55 in the afternoon, led to the fall of the tower, but no loss of life was recorded. TCN engineers are making attempts to remove the connectors currently on the road to ensure ease of movement around the area.
“TCN engineers are currently at the accident site and are already assessing the level of damage and trying to put in a remedial installation in the form of a temporary bypass to restore electricity supply to the affected areas.
“As a result of the accident, there was a limited outage in Maitama, Wu, the central region, and some parts of Jarkie.
“In the meantime, while making every effort to provide a remedial supply source, TCN assures affected customers that it will work around the clock to ensure recovery is achieved quickly, after which it will begin to dismantle and rebuild a new transmission tower to replace the damaged one.
“TCN confirms that its engineering line crew is making every effort to restore the power supply and notes that the supply will be restored as soon as possible.”
