Premier League: He criticized the referee, Atwell, for not giving the Manchester United midfielder a red card
Former Liverpool player Graeme Souness has criticized referee Stuart Atwell for not awarding Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer during the Red Devils’ 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday.
Sabitzer made a risky tackle on Leicester City defender Wutt Weiss in the first half which attracted a lot of attention during the match.
Giving his verdict on the incident, Souness told Sky Sports, “100 per cent, I think that’s a red card for a number of reasons.
“For a start, he’s partly to blame because he’s on heels, Weiss, when that ball breaks in front of him, he’s not alive to it, but that’s it, Sabitzer turned on his side, and that’s a classic case of if you’re going to go and do somebody, that’s how you do it.” You run the side.
“If he touches the ball, what will he do with the ball? He looks at the player.
“I don’t care what some referees who haven’t played the match before say, that’s a sending-off. If that’s not dangerous play.”
Meanwhile, two goals from Marcus Rashford and one from Jadon Sancho gave Man United victory over Leicester City.
