Premier League: He’s no better than Sterling, Pulisic – Paul Merson scolds Chelsea about the new signing

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has slammed Chelsea’s owners for signing Chenonso Madukwe from PSV Eindhoven in the January transfer window.

According to Merson, the 20-year-old new signing is by no means better than the likes of Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling.

The former Arsenal man has questioned why Todd Boyle and his team of experts waste money on players no better than those already playing for the club.

Madukwe moved from Ajax to Stamford Bridge in a deal worth around £29m and has featured three times for Graham Potter’s side so far.

And after watching the winger play certain matches for the Blues, Merson questioned his signing.

“You can’t tell me Noni Madueki is a better player than Raheem Sterling or Christian Pulisic. Not him. Why buy players who aren’t better than you have?” he said on Sky Sports.
