Premier League: I’d rather fight for the title with another coach – Arteta talks about Guardiola

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has said he would prefer Manchester City not to face Pep Guardiola for the Premier League title.

Arteta worked as Guardiola’s assistant for nearly three years before taking the Arsenal job.

On Friday, the two men will face off in the FA Cup fourth round clash at the Etihad.

Arteta and Guardiola are also in contention for the title this season, with Arsenal leading by five points having played one more game.

But Arteta insists the rivalry will not affect their friendship.

“I always hoped [Arsenal challenging City for trophies] That will be the case one day and it will happen this season. It wouldn’t change a friendship, how important it is to my life, how important it is to my profession.

“We’re both ready to win and defend our clubs in any way and that’s always been the case since day one. I’d rather do it with someone else to be fair,” said Arteta.
