Premier League: It’s crazy to say they’re in a title race – Conte names the team that won’t win the league

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte said it was “crazy” for anyone to suggest they could win the Premier League title this season.

Conte was speaking on New Year’s Day after the 2-0 home defeat by Aston Villa.

Emi Buendia and Douglas Luiz scored as Tottenham lost their grip on fourth place.

They now trail Manchester United, who hold a two-point lead with a game in hand.

Conte’s team is also 13 points away from league leaders and arch-rivals Arsenal.

“I remember very well in the summer, at the beginning, people talked about Tottenham as title contenders, but in my experience it was a little crazy to read this,” said Conte.

“To become a contender for the title, you have to have a solid foundation. That means to have 14 or 15 strong, quality players and other young players to develop.”
