Premier League: It’s very disappointing – Rio Ferdinand’s response when Ten Hag was disciplining the Manchester United striker
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand wasn’t too pleased with striker Marcus Rashford after manager Erik ten Hag sacked him for their Premier League match against Wolves on Saturday due to an ‘internal disciplinary issue’.
Recall that Ten Hag confirmed before kick-off that the 25-year-old England striker was chosen as a substitute as a punishment for a disciplinary issue.
But Ferdinand has now endorsed Ten Hag’s decision to maintain discipline in the Man United squad, adding that it was disappointing that Rashford was left off the bench against Wolves due to a disciplinary problem.
“All 90 minutes, that was him [Rashford’s] Best return of goals and assists in his Manchester United career, it’s disappointing,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
“You come here as a fan and you want to see your best players play, he’s in great shape, he’s one of the best players, one of the first names on the team sheet at this moment in time, so it’s very frustrating to see.
“But by the same token, you’re glad the director keeps shaping him. If there were things going on behind the scenes that he wasn’t happy about, people would be disciplined.”
Rashford scored the only goal of the game in the second half as Man United beat Wolverhampton 1-0.
