Manchester United have set a deadline to force Cristiano Ronaldo out of Old Trafford.
The Red Devils plan to resolve Ronaldo’s future before their first Premier League match after the World Cup returns on December 21.
The Red Devils said in a statement on Friday that they had “initiated the appropriate steps” following the Portuguese’s explosive interview of the week with Piers Morgan.
ESPN has now reported that Manchester United would prefer not to sue Ronaldo to avoid a potentially drawn-out legal battle.
According to the report, Ronaldo’s response to Man United’s plans to terminate his contract will decide his course of action.
Ronaldo is currently playing for Portugal ahead of their World Cup group opener against Ghana on Thursday.
The Red Devils’ next match comes on December 21 when coach Erik ten Hag’s side host Burnley in the Carabao Cup.
United hope to make a final decision before then.
