Presidential Election: Ozoko, Kalu, Ikpiazu, and Other Firms Defend Peter Obi
Twelve legal practitioners are part of Peter Obi’s legal team to challenge the victory of President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SANs, in order of seniority, are Dr Levy Ozokwu, Chief Awa Kalu, Dr Onishi Ekpezu, Ben Ikweto, Chief Ben Anyashbe.
Among them are ST Hon, Arthur Obi Okafor, Ik Ezechukwu, JS Okutepa, Drs Valerie Azinge, Emeka Okpoko and Alex Ejesieme.
“These are not all the great defenders on the team. There is still more to be scored,” an inside source told the Daily Post.
On Wednesday, the Abuja Court of Appeal will decide on the application by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
INEC is seeking to reconfigure the dual-mode voter accreditation system, BVAS, used to run the 2023 presidential election on February 25.
The legal team of the Labor presidential candidate on Tuesday submitted a motion to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission from tampering with evidence in a case that goes to the Presidential Election Tribunal.
The lawyers argued that the data on BVAS contained the crux of Obi’s case against the “unlawful manipulation” of the results and operations of the February 25 election.
They told the court that forensic experts were not granted access to INEC’s systems to inspect them prior to the said data transfer.
But the ruling said it would move the data on BVAS to a backup server before the gubernatorial and state legislative elections scheduled for March 11.
The case is being considered by a three-person panel of the Court of Appeal headed by Judge Josef Ekeg.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Tinubu the winner of the ruling Progressive Congress party, APC, last Wednesday.
The three main opposition parties, LP; Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; New Nigerian People’s Party, NNPP; All of them rejected the results.
On February 28, the Liberal Party and the People’s Democratic Party called for the resignation of the head of the Independent Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmoud Yagoubou, and for the elections to be annulled.
