Prevent Barcelona from signing new players
La Liga president Javier Tebas has confirmed that Barcelona will not be able to sign players during the summer transfer window.
Tebas said this at the Financial Times Business Summit in London on Thursday, according to Martin Lipton of The Sun.
Barcelona spent over €150m last summer signing the likes of Rafinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kunde, while Frank Kessie, Hector Bellerin, Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso arrived at the Camp Nou on free transfers.
Barcelona came under pressure to reduce its squad last summer but only managed to get rid of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Philippe Coutinho, while Memphis Depay joined Atletico Madrid in January.
However, according to Tebas, Barcelona will be banned from registering new players until more players are offloaded.
Tebas said, “As of today, Barcelona don’t have any room in their budget to spend in the next transfer window.
“Barcelona have been involved in questionable behaviour, which has had an impact on La Liga and we are acting accordingly.
“We have decided that they can no longer sign any more players.
“They have to invest less in players and we encouraged them to sell players because for every amount they increase in sales they can spend 40 per cent of that.”
