Protests have broken out in Lagos over the scarcity of new naira notes
Some Nigerians on Friday protested the lack of new naira notes in Mile 12 and Ajiji district of Lagos state.
The Daily Mail gathered that the bad guys have taken over major roads, attacking commuters, and bus rapid transit (BRT).
Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundin said the commander was aware of the development and officers were deployed to the area.
“That’s right. Our guys are there. Reinforcement units deployed. Stay safe out there,” he tweeted.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday ordered that the deadline for the use of old N1000 and N500 banknotes be kept.
He said only the N200 Naira note would be circulated along with the new notes.
The citizens still suffer hardships caused by the scarcity of naira notes. This is despite assurances from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
