PRP claims party logo was excluded from ballot papers in Taraba and demands compensation
People’s Redemption Party’s Senate candidate Iliasu Ibrahim Jadu has called for the immediate annulment of the state’s southern Taraba district elections.
The request made on Wednesday at a media session, in Jalingo, identified the exclusion of his political party’s logo from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ballot papers, as the main reason for canceling the exercise.
“I call on the Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately cancel the alleged Senate elections that took place on Saturday, February 25, and to organize new elections bearing the slogan of my party,” he said, showing the ballot papers to the media.
Although the party, he said, had made plans to bring the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission to court and claim damages for him and his party, he said there was a need for the Independent Electoral Commission to correct similar anomalies if they existed before the next . Governors and state assembly elections.
The candidate emphasized that members of his party would go the extra mile in pursuit of justice.
He said, “I could not think of any reason why INEC would prevent my party from participating in the Senate election because all outstanding issues regarding my candidacy had been conclusively resolved between my party and INEC and paved the way for me to be a candidate for Senate elections under the PRP”.
Arguing that the INEC oversaw the primaries from which the party’s South Taraba candidate emerged, he said that the party’s inability to upload its name on the INEC portal was mainly due to technical glitches in the IEC system.
The candidate who indicated that his party had duly applied and submitted names to the Independent Electoral Commission to be uploaded to its portals for the 2023 elections, said he was disappointed on election day to find that INEC had excluded his party, the PRP party from the ballot papers. of the Senate. An election whose candidate was bona fide.
He affirmed that the INEC acted in contravention of the electoral law and vowed to seek compensation in light of the massive damages including the cost, trauma and disgrace that he and his court judged by the illegal act of the INEC.
The Senate elections he is calling for were held in Wukari, Osa, Takum, Donga and Ibe counties.
