Former England manager Stuart Pearce has told Gareth Southgate he does not want to see players like Declan Rice and Luke Shaw play against Wales in their group’s final game.
He said both players must remain safe during the knockout stage of the tournament in Qatar.
England would reach the next round of the competition with just one point against Wales.
They drew 0-0 against the United States on Friday, four days after beating Iran 6-2 in the first match.
“There’s a couple I don’t want to watch them play. I can’t afford them being injured in the knockout stages,” Stewart, the former England star, told TalkSPORT.
Declan Rice number one, Luke Shaw another.
There are a couple of people I think to myself that there is no chance I’m playing with, I have to keep them safe. Ken might be another person who falls into those. There are three I’ll make sure I don’t get started in any way shape or form.”
