Qatar 2022: Jurgen Klinsmann names Brazil’s 4-2 penalty shootout defeat against Croatia

Former German national team coach Juergen Klinsmann has accused Brazil coach Tite of committing a fundamental error.

According to him, the coach made a mistake in the penalty shootout defeat by saving Neymar’s last penalty for his team.

Neymar scored a sensational solo goal at the end of the first half of extra time to put Brazil ahead, but Bruno Petkovic equalized for the Europeans just three minutes into the match.

Nikola Vlasic, Luka Modric, Lovro Mager and Mislav Orsic scored from a penalty kick for Croatia, but Marquinhos’ effort came off the post.

Croatia won 4-2 in the penalty shootout to advance to the semi-finals. Why should Brazil wait until the next four years?

Klinsmann told the BBC that different managers take completely different approaches to penalty kicks.

He noted that while some managers would like the best to be ahead of them, others will bail them out in difficult moments.

But for Klinsmann, it’s better if the best penalty takers take the penalty first, which has been the case in recent years.

“Set the tone, don’t keep them for the fifth mainly because you might not get a chance to kick,” he added.

“Nemyar was the first for me. You just need to set the tone, score the first goal and calm everyone down.”
