Qatar 2022: Rio Ferdinand was named the best player in England after the World Cup exit

Former Manchester United centre-back, Rio Ferdinand, has identified West Ham United’s Declan Rice as one of the best and best England players in the Three Lions’ squad.

Ferdinand said this following England’s exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Saturday in Qatar.

It is noteworthy that England was eliminated from the ongoing World Cup in the quarter-finals against France.

Coach Gareth Southgate’s team lost 2-1 to France, as Harry missed a penalty kick during the confrontation.

Speaking to his YouTube channel after France defeated England, Ferdinand revealed that he had sent a message to Rice.

“I have to give a shout out to Declan Rice,” said Ferdinand.

“He has been quietly one of our most consistent and best performers.

“When you talk to a lot of the foreign players, the legends, obviously, we hang out with a lot of the legends of the game during the World Cup and we talk to a lot of the players.

When you ask them about Englishmen, you get the obvious Jude Bellingham stuff, but most of them date back with Declan Rice too.

“So, in terms of respect across Europe and the world, he’s definitely a player who has cemented his reputation. I left him a message, a text message this morning about it.”
