Host country Qatar was eliminated from the World Cup group stage after losing two consecutive matches in Group A.
With this development, Qatar became the first country to be eliminated from the tournament after the Netherlands drew 1-1 against Ecuador.
Qatar’s hopes of getting three points were dashed when Senegal crushed them 3-1 in their second group match.
The hosts still have to play their remaining game against Group A leaders Netherlands on Tuesday at Al Bayt Stadium.
The BBC reported that Qatar made history by being the first country from the Middle East region to host the World Cup and now has the unwanted record of becoming only the second home team to be knocked out in the group stage, after South Africa in 2010.
