Recruitment into the Army for the Defense of Nigeria – COAS call for applicants

The Nigerian Army has reiterated that recruitment into the Army should not be seen as recruitment but as a call to defend the integrity of the nation.

Onyima Nwachukwu, Brigadier General and Director of Public Relations of the Army, said in a statement on Saturday that Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Farouk Yahya conducted the observation on Saturday, in Falgour Forest, Kano State, the place of recruitment, before setting off in the 10km endurance race for candidates undergoing examination.

According to Yahya, recruitment into the Nigerian Army was to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, unlike recruitment in other sectors.

He said that recruitment requires applicants with good health and psychological and physical fitness who are emotionally stable, stressing that the exercise requires selflessness and, if necessary, the greatest sacrifice, adding that it is not the business of the newcomers.

He urged the candidates to take the screening process seriously, as only the best would appear in the final recruitment.

Major General Yahya also admonished the personnel conducting the screening exercise to protect their safety by avoiding any form of compromising.

In response, the Head of Department (Army), Major General Wilson Ali, stated that the gradual provision of infrastructure, such as electricity and drinking water, and the modernization of the medical center, dormitories and toilets in the center, effectively enabled an environment conducive to the conduct of the exercise, just as he assured COAS on Barrier-free screening exercise.
