Kogi State Governor Yahya Bello has called the Central Bank of Nigeria’s naira redesign policy an expropriation policy, saying President Muhammadu Buhari has been deceived.
Bellew spoke during an interview with Channels Television’s program, Politics Today, on Friday.
“The policy is in a sense a policy of confiscation, very nicely packaged,” said the governor, “but Mr. President has been deluded.”
When asked to name those who deceived Buhari, Bello simply said, “Those who advised Mr. President misled Mr. President economically.”
This comes less than a few hours after the Supreme Court, on Friday, overturned the ban on using old N200, N500 and N1000 banknotes as legal tender.
The Supreme Court decided, in a unanimous decision by a seven-member panel of justices, that old banknotes should remain valid for legal tender through December 31.
