Rivers government threatens to seal the Consensus Party Secretariat in Port Harcourt

The Rivers state government has threatened to shut down the Accord Party Secretariat in Port Harcourt, the state capital, for allegedly changing the use of the property from residential to semi-public.

The state, in a notice signed by the Commissioner of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Austin Ben Chioma, addressed to the state party chief, ordered the party to return to the original use of the property or risk its closure.

The Government explained that the alleged change of use of the property located at No. 5 Ndoni Street in the GRA area of ​​Port Harcourt without authorization from the Ministry of Urban Planning and Urban Development violated Section 43 of the Land Use Regulation 2010 for the River. State Gazette No. 1 Volume 48 dated January 25, 2012 and Executive Order No. 22 of 2022.

The Government further stated that the unilateral change of use of the building constituted an inconvenience to residents and other users in the area.

The ministry has given the party seven days to return to initial use of the property or risk being closed.

Confirming the notification, a member of the party’s campaign council media subcommittee in Rivers State said the party had received the letter and would respond in a timely manner.
