SERAP gives Wike, Okowa and others 7 days to disclose the expenditure of the N625bn refunds

The Social, Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) called on the country’s nine oil-producing states to “provide and widely disseminate details of the expenditure of oil derivatives refunds of 625 billion naira recently paid to them by the Federal Government of Nigeria, including details and locations of projects implemented with the money “.

SERAP disclosed this in an open letter dated December 10, 2022 and made available to the DAILY POST on Sunday.

The letter was signed by the Deputy Director of SERAP, Kolawole Oluwadare.

Recall that the federal government has recently paid N625.43 billion petroleum derivatives to the governors of Edo, Abia, Rivers, Ondo, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Delta states.

The payments covered 13 percent of the oil derivatives, support and recovery of Sure-B. Refunds date from 1999 to 2021.

We would be grateful if the recommended measures are taken within seven days of receipt and/or posting of this letter. If we do not hear back from you by then, SERAP will take all appropriate legal action to compel you and your state to comply with our request in the public interest,” SERAP’s letter read in part.
