Seven women are killed when a bus catches fire along the Sagamo-Benin Highway

At least seven women were killed on Wednesday when a passenger bus caught fire along the Sagamo-Benin Highway.

The Daily Mail reported that the victims suffered burns beyond recognition, with seven others injured in the single incident.

It is learned that the accident occurred at the Odogbolu intersection of the highway in Ogun State, involving a Mazda bus marked AGL 886 YD.

It was said that the 15-seater bus suddenly caught fire due to engine oil spurting along the highway.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enfor Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed the incident.

According to him, the incident took place at around 2:50 pm and involved the victims, who were worshipers coming from Kosovo district of Lagos State, heading to Ibe.

Akinbeyi said that they are going to revive the church to welcome the new year 2023.

Aside from the driver, who escaped unharmed, Akinbeyi said the remaining 14 adult females sustained either death or burns.

He explained that “the number of passengers on the commercial bus was 15, including seven women who were burnt to death, while the remaining seven suffered serious burns and were taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital for treatment.”
