The Defense Command says its forces eliminated more than 50 terrorists in various operations in the northeastern and northwest theaters of operations within three weeks.
Director of Defense Media Operations Maj. Gen. This was stated by Musa Danmadami while briefing reporters on the army’s operations across the country on Thursday in Abuja.
Danmadami said that between December 30 and January 12, the forces participating in Operation Hadin Kay (OPHK) eliminated at least 25 Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa (ISWAP) terrorists in the north-east of the country.
He added that the forces also arrested 18 terrorists, 21 logisticians, foreign informants and five kidnappers across the theater of operations during this period.
Danmadami said the forces also rescued 47 kidnapped civilians while 377 surrendered Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists and their family members, including 52 adult males, 126 adult females and 199 children.
He said all items found, criminals arrested and civilians rescued have been handed over to the relevant authority for further action.
Captured terrorists and those who surrendered with their family members are being determined for further action.
“Cumulatively, within the past three weeks, troops have recovered 21 AK47s, four FN assault rifles, three homemade pump-action shotguns, five home-made pistols, and three PKT machine guns.
Other items recovered were 124 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 139 rounds of 7.62mm, 29 rounds of 5.56mm and a 140mm grenade.
Also recovered was one 81mm mortar bomb, three RPG tubes and grenades, 36 hand grenades, five Danish rifles, five FN magazines, 19 drums of automotive gas oil, and five drums of Premium Motor Spirit.
Also found were 10 bags of various grains, 10 boxes of soft drinks, 150 pieces of used clothes, 50 pieces of women’s fabrics, 50 children’s clothes, and 30 pairs of women’s clothes.
“Other items include textile materials, medical supplies, 21 motorcycles, 16 bicycles, a milling machine, a tank loaded with PMS, 30 cattle for the amount of N938, 580.00 and other miscellaneous items,” he explained.
Danmadami said that a series of air interception operations against terrorist hideouts, enclaves and camps eliminated dozens of terrorists and destroyed their pockets in the Borno region and Lake Chad.
He added that the battle damage assessment revealed that a number of terrorists had been neutralized and their facilities destroyed in the raids.
