The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrests a Nigerian woman after being deceived out of US$200,000 in a false marriage
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested Chidozie Kingsley Nwachi for defrauding an American, Nicole Kierulff Sayers, after a false marriage.
Nawashi was arrested in Abuja on Wednesday after Sayers alleged the suspect lured her into a false marriage and defrauded her of $200,000 in savings.
A statement from the International Trade Commission said that Nawachi’s stunt was an offer of a bogus contract by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in Abuja.
The suspect allegedly had Sayers finance the execution of the contract until the petitioner contacted the department with the discovery of the fake contract papers.
I used to transfer money to him. I just married him, though I didn’t feel confident in my choice to marry him.”
Sayers revealed that she had been practicing suicide sporadically after discovering that the suspect had cheated on her.
Items recovered from Nwachi include Toyota Venza, Lexus ES300, expensive wristwatches, two Apple iPhones, two iPhone laptops, international passport and ATM cards.
$2,204 was also recovered from him. Nawashi will be tried in court once the investigations are over.
