Augustine Okoye, a businessman in Ojib, North East Akoko Local Government Area, Ondo State, was kidnapped and murdered over the weekend by unknown gunmen.
The deceased, a popular cosmetics merchant in the Ikari-Akoko hub of the state, was said to have been killed after an undisclosed ransom was paid.
Okoye and his wife were kidnapped on the Isua-Ise Akoko Highway while on their way to the town of Isua.
The sources stated that the kidnappers released the wife and killed the businessman after collecting a ransom from the family.
The wife, Bolaji Augustine, recounted how they were kidnapped, revealing that Okoye was killed before the ransom was paid.
Confirming the incident, a police source in Ikari Akoku confirmed that the vehicle used to kidnap the victims was recovered from the scene.
The police source added that the Amutkun Corps and the local security forces in the axis began combing the forest to retrieve Okoye’s body and arrest the suspects.
