The Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Dingiyadi, said that the appointment of Usman Baba as Inspector General of Police is for a single term of four years.
Dingiadi confirmed Thursday through press secretary Osajbevo Esenmen.
The minister explained that the clarification came after news of extending a period of work in a section of the media.
Dingyady said the IGP was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari on April 6, 2021 and confirmed by the Nigerian Police Board in June 2021 for one term.
Osaigbovo Ehisienmen said the appointment was made as provided by Section 7 (3) and Section 7 (6) of the Police Ordinance 2020.
He said, “These provisions of the Police Amendment Regulations 2020 to extend the period of service should not be misinterpreted as wrongly reported in some sections of the media.”
The minister advised the public to ignore the baseless allegations.
