The Niger state government has announced the release of seven Chinese nationals who were abducted in the Agata Iboki district of the state’s Chiroro local government.

The victims, whose freedom was secured through a rescue mission by the Nigerian Air Force, were abducted in June 2022.

The government made the announcement in a statement signed by Commissioner of Homeland Security and Human Services Hon. Emmanuel Bagna Omar in Mina.

According to him, “We are receiving with great joy reports of the rescue mission conducted by NAF to rescue 7 kidnapped Chinese nationals.” His Excellency Governor Abubakar Sani Bello commended the courage and effort of the commander and men of NAF Detachment 271 for the excellent operation.

“He specifically commended the inspiring leadership style and acumen of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, who has remained under NAF’s command in recording tremendous successes in its operations nationwide, including the successful rescue of those Chinese nationals in the Campanin Duca and Guasca districts of Bernin Neighborhood LGA, Kaduna State.”

He also revealed that the government of Niger, led by Governor Sani Bello, will continue to cooperate with all security forces in the state to ensure the safety and security of citizens.

“Governor Bello congratulates the victims, their families, friends and partners for their safe rescue and wishes them well,” Omar added.
