The Nigerian government has submitted a letter of approval to the Amalgamated Confederation of App-Based Transport Workers of Nigeria (AUATWON).
The Minister for Labor and Employment, Chris Njegi, made the presentation on Tuesday in Abuja.
The new federation includes all app-dependent transport workers, online transport services, and e-transportation drivers and operators.
Najiji pointed out that the registration was a milestone in labor management, especially in the trade union services sector.
The minister said that the informal sector, which constitutes the largest number of workers, is being formalized all over the world.
“Today, we are breaking new ground with those who hire themselves and from there, we hire others,” he said.
AUTWON applied for registration on April 27, 2021 to meet the needs of self-employed people in the field of IT-based transportation services.
