Anambra State Police Commissioner, Mr Echeng Echeng met with the management and leadership of the Student Union Government, SUG, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Oka.
The meeting was about the recent increase in culture-related killings and the activities of armed robbers within the Yvette community, where the Foundation’s students mostly reside.
Anambra State Police Command Spokesperson DSP Toochukwu Ikenga who spoke about the meeting said: “Anambra State Police Command met with the administration of Nnamdi Azikwe University, Student Union Government and the Commissioner for Homeland Security.
The meeting took place in the University Vice-Chancellor’s meeting room in Unizik. The meeting was intended to address recent security breaches at some of the lodges along Yvette.
“The Commissioner of Police, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, DCP John Obuagbaka, noted that the command has since embarked on intensive patrolling, improvement of operational sites, and deployment of covert elements as a solution to the security situation in the area.”
There have been cult-related killings at Yvette as well as burglaries at student hostels.
Ifite is a community close to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where most of the institution’s off-campus students reside.
