The Tournament: Ajayi may miss the Rotherham United game – West Brom coach Corbran

West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corbran is unsure half of Ajayi will be available for Sky Bet’s Championship game against Rotherham United on Saturday.

The Nigeria international has struggled to stay fit this season.

The centre-back was sidelined for three months after picking up an injury in West Brom’s match against Wigan Athletic on 30 August.

The 29-year-old missed 14 consecutive matches in the tournament as a result of the setback.

Ajayi returned to training during the international break, having fully recovered from his injury.

But the defender injured his shoulder in training, forcing him to miss Saturday’s trip to Sunderland.

On Wednesday, Corbran provided an update on the senior defender ahead of the home game.

“I was considering playing Semi in that position because he was fine from his previous (long-term ankle) injury, but he had one accident while training,” Corbran was quoted by the Express & Star as saying.

“He went down and had a problem with his shoulder. We still had doubts the day before the game, but it was impossible for him to have normal movement. It’s not an important injury but we have to wait.”
