Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris has retired from international football and his replacement has been appointed
Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has retired from international football.
The 2018 World Cup champion and 2022 FIFA World Cup finalist announced on Monday that he is retiring from international football.
In a statement, the goalkeeper said it was time to hand over the younger player to move on.
“There comes a time when you have to know how to deliver,” Lloris told L’Equipe.
“I don’t want to take over, I have always said and repeat that the French national team does not belong to anyone.”
The Tottenham man said he was sure the team was ready to go on without him, and recommended Mike Meenan to take over from him.
“I’d rather get out when I’m at my best than wait for a recession,” he added.
