Transfer: Why Champions League clubs refused to join Al-Nassr – Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo gave his reasons for choosing to leave Europe and sign for Al Nassr.

The deal, which saw the 37-year-old join the Saudi club, was announced on Friday.

Ronaldo will earn $75 million annually for the duration of his two-year contract.

“I am fortunate to have won everything I set out to win in European football and I feel now is the right moment to share my experience in Asia.

“I am looking forward to joining my new team-mates and helping them achieve success,” said Ronaldo.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is believed to be keen to continue his career at the highest level in Europe.

Ronaldo was particularly keen to get into the Champions League squad after his contract with Manchester United was terminated in November.
