U-20 Africa Cup of Nations: Weak Flying Eagles fall to Senegal in the opening match
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles lost 1-0 to the Senegal Cubs in their opening Group B match at the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
The Senegalese kicked off the game and pushed the Flying Eagles into defense.
The Nigerian boys improved as the game developed but failed to get any real goal-scoring opportunity.
Senegal took the lead through Souleymane Faye five minutes before the end of the first half.
Faye fired home after Flying Eagles goalkeeper Nathaniel Nwoso pushed the ball wide with a fierce low shot.
Ladan Bossu’s side failed to threaten Senegalese goalkeeper Landing Badji for most of the match.
They had one shot on goal two minutes into time which was comfortably saved by Badji.
The Flying Eagles finished with ten men after Ahmed Abdullah was sent off for a huge foul late in the game.
They will face hosts Egypt in their next match on Wednesday.
