Umahi bows to the pressure and drives Ebubeagu out at Ebonyi
Ebonyi State Governor David Omahi has accepted the Federal Supreme Court ruling to dissolve the Ebubeagu Security Group a few days after the 2023 general elections in the country.
Omahi also expressed concern about alleged threats emanating from a separatist group led by Simon Ikpa to disrupt election operations in the southeast geopolitical region.
Amhi announced this while addressing the stakeholders and citizens of the country in a broadcast.
According to him, “We are aware of some complaints regarding the security situation in our state and the south-east of the country which will be examined in the context of this address. On the issue of the threat of disrupting the elections in the south-east and thus in Ebonyi State, I would like to appeal to our people to listen to the voice of reason.” He ignores any ad that aims to disrupt the elections in the south east and other parts of the country especially Ebonyi state Our people should be very vigilant about this matter.
“We would like the traditional rulers and all stakeholders to hold meetings in their villages to appeal to our people not to carry out such threats as the security services will not fold their hands and allow the elections to be disrupted in Ebonyi State and the southeast of the country.
So, we extend our appeal to our brothers and sisters who are being exploited without knowing what they are fighting for to carry out such threats, death threats, arson threats and other violent activities. Let me assure the people of Ebonyi and all those who come for this election that we will do our best within the limits of the law to protect their lives and that the elections should take place on schedule and very peacefully as well.”
However, he founded two other security groups; Ebonyi vigilante corps and neighborhood watch groups to replace Ebubeagu and charged them not to participate in the upcoming general elections in the state.
“I have decided to comply with the subsequent ruling that Ebubeagu should not work, so for the time being, Ebubeagu should not work while the suspension and appeal entered into Enugu and Ebubeagu when granted will start working again.”
