About Shankila Robinson’s death
Who she traveled with and why these alleged friends allowed her to be assaulted while at least one other person was standing next to her to capture the fight on tape are two of the growing concerns that have arisen as a result of the tragic death of a young black woman in Mexico.
According to sources, Shanquella Robinson died less than twenty-four hours after she and up to six friends arrived in Cabo at the end of the previous month. The manner in which the woman, aged 25, died was the subject of disproportionately large discussion on social media, despite the fact that her death was itself a tragedy.
Video circulating online shows Robinson being viciously assaulted by another woman in what appears to be a hotel room with a balcony overlooking a tropical setting. During the one-sided altercation, the woman in the video identified only as Robinson is not shown defending herself. The short video clip shows a woman identified as Robinson being struck multiple times in the head and face, then thrown to the ground before suffering additional blows to the head and face.
At least two people appeared to be filming the violence, one who captured the video that was posted to social media and another person whose phone can also be seen capturing the scene. The video was posted on social media.
According to Salamondra Robinson told Queen City News, “everyone who was there with her was telling different things.” Despite the fact that the autopsy indicated that Robinson was the victim of horrific abuse, officials from the US State Department in Mexico bizarrely claimed that the police investigation showed no signs of foul play.
People on social media have taken it upon themselves to share the names and photos of people who were said to have been with Robinson in Mexico at the time of her death, despite the fact that Robinson’s friends have never been officially identified.
There have been calls on social media for the friends to be arrested and charged with the alleged roles they played in Robinson’s death; However, it is not clear whether or not this could happen since the friends are no longer in Mexico.
A video shared on social media purports to depict a man who claims to have arrived in Cabo on his own, one day after Robinson and the other people actually got there. In the video, an unidentified man can be heard saying he was told Robinson was suffering from alcohol poisoning and that Robinson claimed he was unaware that a fight was taking place.
Winston-Salem State University is a historically black college, and it is believed that at least one of Robinson’s friends who traveled to Mexico with her also attended this institution. Robinson attended this university.
Robinson’s death notice can be found online, and it states that his funeral will be held in Charlotte on Saturday.
