The Ekiti State Government has reiterated its continuous efforts to reward intelligence at all educational levels in the state.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Kofoworola Aderiye revealed this while presenting scholarship cash prizes to 12 high school students in her office in Ado Ekiti.
Dr. Aderiye, who was represented by the Executive Secretary, Ekiti State Scholarship Board, Ms. Bosede Jegede, reaffirmed the commitment of the State Government to maintain the reputation that Ekiti has already earned in the field of education worldwide.
Appreciating the scholarship sponsors, Ekiti Parapo UNILAG Estate Magodo 1, Lagos, for its support of the education of less privileged students, the Special Adviser said that a cash grant of N35,000 was awarded to each of the 12 outstanding students. Students from 12 state local government areas on merit.
While calling on individuals and groups of goodwill to support the government’s efforts to make education attractive to all in Ekiti, the Special Adviser tasked beneficiaries with using cash support wisely.
In his remark, Ekiti Parapo UNILAG Estate Magodo 1 Lagos Representative, Prince Segun Famuagun, said the group has a sense of responsibility to give back to society, especially the education sector in Ekiti State in order to encourage students to do more in their studies.
It was reported that the group’s annual scholarship was launched in 2020 to help secondary school students of Ekiti origin and to assist the state government in its small way of encouraging the academic brilliance for which Ekiti State is known.
Prince Phamwajon assured the audience that scholarship sponsorship would be supported by the group and also urged the state government through the Scholarship Board to bring together those who have benefited from state government sponsorship and encourage them to give back to the community so that it can further help. Beneficiaries will be registered in this regard.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary students, Mr. Ajimu Hamid of Ekiti State Government College, Osei Ekiti, appreciated the sponsors and the state government for encouraging them to shine through the scholarship and promised not to be relentless in their missions to make Ekiti State proud.
Ms. Afe Bolanle on behalf of the parents thanked the state government and urged the sponsors to extend the scholarship beyond the 12 local government areas in its next edition to accommodate more recipients.
There were letters of goodwill from the Executive Secretaries of the Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education, Ms. Modobe Valade, and the Technical and Vocational Education Council, Mr. Thomas Oguntungi.
