Argentina’s captain, Lionel Messi, has insisted he always has the same illusion he felt the first time playing as a professional soccer player.
Messi said this while reacting to reaching his 1,000th career match as a professional soccer player.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker achieved the feat after Argentina’s World Cup last-16 victory over Australia last weekend.
The former Barcelona captain also scored a goal against Australia during the meeting, his first World Cup goal in the knockout stages.
In a post on his Instagram account on Tuesday, Messi wrote: “1k is a really good match and always with the same illusion that I felt the first time I played as a professional.
“Thank you so much to everyone who accompanied me on this beautiful journey.”
