World Cup: Cameroon coach Rigobert Song has been criticized for his decision on Onana

Former Super Eagles defender Ifene Odise has criticized Cameroon coach Rigobert Song over his decision on goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Song and Onana had a confrontation before Cameroon’s 3-3 World Cup draw with Serbia on Monday.

Prior to the World Cup match, Onana was left out of Cameroon’s starting line-up to face Serbia due to his disagreement with Song over team tactics.

Speaking of development, Udisi insisted that Song cannot sack his best player from the team, adding that he must know his management.

According to him, Aliou Cisse, the Senegalese counterpart of Song, defended Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy when he was fouled against the Netherlands.

“I think there was a problem between Onana and the coach. Rigobert Song,” Udisei said on Brela FM.

“Song should have managed the situation. After the tournament, you might want to not invite the player as coach if you stay there or even as FA chairman but not during the tournament.

“Cameroon had a chance to score, but they missed this match. You can’t send off your best players. Worst case scenario, you can replace the player. This is a proper tournament.

When Aliou Cisse’s Senegal lost to the Netherlands and he defended his goalkeeper, [Édouard] Mindy, he knew what he was doing.

“Cissé knows how to manage players. He’s a good manager. His goalkeeper made a mistake, but he defended him. Even Kalidou Koulibaly against Holland. And the next game [against Qatar]they won.

“Unless the player’s behavior is very bad, you have to know your man management.”
