World Cup: England asked to boycott the tournament in Qatar

Former England midfielder Matt Le Tissier has urged the Three Lions to boycott the 2022 FIFA World Cup over the chaos caused by the “OneLove” armband.

Le Tissier also wants Gareth Southgate’s side to cancel its FIFA membership.

England and Wales, including some other countries, were planning to wear OneLove badges to promote inclusivity and LGBT rights in Qatar, a country that criminalizes same-sex relations.

But all countries backed down as soon as FIFA threatened to give a card to the players who wore it.

Speaking of England’s decision to back off, Le Tissier told GB News, “It just proves what a lot of people say about it. It’s a signal of pure virtue. They don’t stand one hundred percent behind it.”

He continued, “If you want to make a real statement, then boycott the World Cup. What could be a better statement is if they boycott FIFA and cancel their membership because this organization is corrupt to the core.”
